Is it safe to open 5433 to the Internet?

As the title says: is it safe to open 5433 to the public Internet?

  • Based on our documentation we that the port is tcp enabled for inside and outside the database. Here is the detail from our Installation guide: Vertica requires that port 5433 be available for use for client connectivity (vsql, ODBC,JDBC,etc). Ensure that 5433 is TCP-enabled on all hosts for connections inside and outside the database. This includes making sure that all of the following are correctly configured or disabled. Firewalls — not recommended for database hosts SELinux (Security-Enhanced Linux) iptables Please refer to the Installation guide for additional questions.
