Why does EXPORT TO VERTICA fail

Why does EXPORT TO VERITICA fail with vsql:export.sql:3: ERROR 4534: Receive on v_dw_node0001: Message receipt from v_test_node0001 failed [canceled] after a couple of hours? Exporting a smaller amount of data works fine.

I believe it was a firewall issue. Export to vertica seems to keep an idle control channel open that the firewall dropped after about one hour.
