Performance of Views compared to tables — Vertica Forum

Performance of Views compared to tables

Querying a table is faster or View ? I am creating a view because my table names are not named properly and I cant expose them to my business, so i want to create a business layer with views and having a proper naming of columns and expose those views to Business

  • Hi Manu, If your view is simple (for example, if you're just renaming columns), then you should see no performance difference between querying the view and querying the underlying table. Vertica will look at the view definition and realize that you really just want to access the underlying the table, and will execute the query accordingly. Adam
