Configuring HDFS connector for Horton Works distribution

I'm trying to use the HDFS connector and have been successful connecting to a Cloudera distribution of Hadoop. It does not appear to work on a Horton Works distribution. There seems to be some discrepancy between the two distributions with port # assignment of webhdfs. Vertica documentation indicates port 14000, which works on Cloudera but that port # does not work on Horton Works. Has anyone experienced this issue or know of a solution.
