  • Thanks Bhawana, but how come dates for .1 releases are the same as for .0? According to the Addendum (http://support.openview.hp.com/pdf/HP_Vertica_Addendum.pdf) the end of life of minor versions depends on new and next releases, so ie. for version 5.1 shouldn't it be "24 months from the date when a new major version (...) becomes generally available" which is 6/4/12 + 2y = 6/4/14? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

  • The dates above only reflect the original release dates and not the dates with the policy as you have stated.

Since 7.0 was generally available on 12/10/13 this year. The 5.1 release became EOL as of 12/10/13.
The policy is 5.1 would be supported for 24 months from 6.0 which would have been 6/4/14 or until 7.0 is generally available, which is 12/10/13.

Here is the EOL policy based on the Addendum you mentioned.

    End of support
HP provides support for the current and previous minor versions of the current major
version. HP will support the last minor version of a major version (for example, 6.2)
for either (i) 24 months from the date when a new major version (for example, 7.0)
becomes generally available or, (ii) until the date when the next major version
(for example, 8.0) becomes generally available, whichever occurs earlier.

If HP discontinues a product and does not make another minor version commercially
available as an update, HP will provide support for 24 months from the date of the
product discontinuance notice. HP may discontinue specific support offerings no longer
generally offered by HP upon 60 days’ notice.

  • Based on the answer from Amy Miller, it looks like the following are the actual end of life dates as of 2/21/2014 and not the dates given by Bhawana.

    Vertica Version:     5.0
Original Release Date of Major Version:     6/20/2011
    End of Life:     12/10/2013

    Vertica Version:     5.1
Original Release Date of Major Version:     6/20/2011
    End of Life:     12/10/2013

    Vertica Version:     6.0
Original Release Date of Major Version:     6/4/2012
End of Life:     12/10/2015 or earlier (if 8.0 comes out before 12/10/2015)

    Vertica Version:     6.1
Original Release Date of Major Version:     6/4/2012
End of Life:     12/10/2015 or earlier (if 8.0 comes out before 12/10/2015)

    Vertica Version:     7.0
Original Release Date of Major Version:     12/10/2013
    End of Life:     unknown

  • Hi, that is not quite correct.
Vertica Version:     6.0 EOL ends when 7.0 ships since we are only supporting the
last minor version of a major version. So this ends when 7.0 ships, but 6.1 will continue to be supported.

    This is correct.

    Vertica Version:     6.1
Original Release Date of Major Version:     6/4/2012
End of Life:     12/10/2015 or earlier (if 8.0 comes out before 12/10/2015)
