Assuming your are using 6.1.2+ - during the cluster creation process from within the MC, you have the option to upload a vertica rpm from the local system ( your laptop/workstation ) to the system running the management console. You'll need to grab that rpm from http://my.vertica.com - make sure you match the MC version to the Vertica database version!
Once the file is uploaded, its registered in the MC's internal database and the rpm file itself is stored in the /opt/vconsole/installations directory so that it can be used to build out the cluster based on the answers you've given in the rest of the wizard.
