Why does Vertica 6 not support LVM?

Question:

The vertica 6.0 supported platforms document states:

"Note that Vertica 6 does not support Linux Logical Volume Manager (LVM)."

Why is this?

Answer:

Our concern with LVM is file corruption. For Vertica database data and catalog disks, we do not test it and have concerns with (and have seen) file corruption.

There is a product feature request to support LVM but no target date.

    I have just checked with Vertica Support, they have no record of a feature request for LVM. I have asked them to raise one.

    There is an existing feature request for this, but it has not been targeted for any release at the moment.
