Are there major performance gains in ext4 compared to ext3

We are currently running a Vertica cluster with ext3 file system, and our workload involves large  volume of data loads and queries. Most of the public benchmarks show ext4 giving slightly better write performance. Does Vertica performance differ a lot between the two file systems? Any comparative numbers or observations would be very useful.

Thanks

  • Hi Sajan

Just wanted to inform that we don't have any benchmarks or no's so to speak that can be share. Though I would like to inform you that ext4 gives a much better I/O performance as compared to ext3, and we have internally tested the same. That is the reason we recommend using ext4, though ext3 is supported as well.
