Dedicated hardware or Virtual Hardware

I have a PoC of Vertica to one of my clients. For this Poc I have virtual machines. I would like to know if for production it is recommended to have dedicated hardware or the system can be run on virtual machines also?

I prefer dedicated hardware for production environment, as it much easy to figure out if any issue in hardware, you don't have to be dependent on support for any issues in hardware.
Plus, It has been observed Vertica performs better on dedicated hardware when compared with Virtual machines, counting the number of aspects like network between Virtual machines, management of virtual machines, deployment on virtual machines.
