Increase data and catalog space with add_location option

We have a vertica setup whose diskspace requiremnt can go upto 1 TB over time.  But we want to strat with 200G and add new data and catalog locations as needed later using add_location option.  

 

I have below question:

 

1. Is expanding databased using add_location is the recommaneded appraoch ?  Are there any alternatives to expand disk space availablity. 

 

2. Does adding more location have any impact on perfroamcne ? 1 Big TB location Vs 5 relatively samll  200G locations - Will there be any varience in perfromacne.

For us all locations are similar from perfromacne (No storage hierarchy).
