Backup settings in a 3-node cluster — Vertica Forum

Backup settings in a 3-node cluster

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding backing up data using the vbr.py. I've setup a config file and the backup works fine for all 3 clusters but im wondering if it's neccesary to actually backup all 3 clusters when the data is balanced. Would it be enough to restore the data on 1 node and re-balance the data between the clusters? Or would i lose data / projections when only a single node is restored?

Kind regards!

  • 3 clusters or a 3 node cluster ? What's the k-safety? If your question is "Is it sufficient to backup 1 node in a 3 nodes cluster?" , the answer is no. Vbr doesn't support taking backup of a subset of nodes by default. You can specify --nodes, but that not desired for restoring data.
