Vertica super slow, should I restart it?

Vertica 7.1

 

I added a new column to a table.  Ran database designer with comprehensive design.  After a few minutes system stated database designer failed for unknown reasons.  

 

Waited for an hour but server top shows 22 load.  Normally load is around 1.

System is now so slow it is unusable.  Should I use adminTools to restart Vertica?

    Can you check to see what is going on in Vertica.log?

     See if you have internal session running. Best way is to install Vertica Management Console so you can track the IO/CPU and cross refrerence with internal and user query usage.
