Loading Excel sheet into hp vertica
Hey,
i have problem. I'm pretty new with HP Vertica and i just tried to create the VMart sample database. After a few hours i finally managed it with the --skip-fs-checks operator.
Now I'm trying to create a database schema from an existing sheet.
I already converted the xlsx file into a csv file.
My question is now:
Do I have to set up the existing excel schema by myself or is this an automatic vertica task?
Does vertica recognize the database schema and the values?
Further more, I have a lot of excel sheets which i have to analyze. All of them have different schemas.
Is this possible in any way with vertica without copying the values by myself into vertica?
Thank you in advance and
Kind regards

Have you looked at using Flex tables and the CSV parser:
https://my.vertica.com/docs/7.2.x/HTML/index.htm#Authoring/FlexTables/FCSVPARSERreference.htm
With flex tables you do not need to define the schema ahead of time. It is based on the data loaded.
See the flex table handbook for more details:
https://my.vertica.com/docs/7.2.x/HTML/index.htm#Authoring/FlexTables/FlexTableHandbook.htm
Thank you very much for your answer.
Now i had time to try the flex tables.
I used the fcsv parser to import data into my table. The data is pretty unstructured but i managed to import it.
Now i wanted to ask if its possible to analyze the content (Business Intelligence)
I want to know if there are similarities in those different csv files.
Is this possible? If yes, how?
Thank you in advance.

Yes you can analyse , HP Vertica is Big data analytics database.
if you need graphs or kind of dashboard you can integrate BI tool with HP vertica.
Hey thank you,
what is the name of the BI tool and how do i integrate it?
Is it even possible with the admintools in the console or do i have to use Management Console?
Kind regards
Karim
May i know you converted xlsx file to csv file is it like using python or any other script
Open Excel with the *.xlsx file - and "Save As.." : "Text CSV"
