HP vertica installation
Hi Team,
I like to know what is the exact version of HP vertica community edition will suit for cento 7.1 OS.
Note : I'm facing below issue when i tried to complete installation with vertica 8.1 in Cento 7.1
FAIL (S0020): https://my.vertica.com/docs/8.1.x/HTML/index.htm#cshid=S0020
Readahead size of xvda (/dev/xvda1) is too low for typical systems: 256

Insufficient swap size. Need 2.00 GB, have 0.00 GB

Hi,
Check this link for the supported "Supported Operating Systems and Operating System Versions" for Vertica 8.1.x:
https://my.vertica.com/docs/8.1.x/HTML/index.htm#Authoring/SupportedPlatforms/MCandServer.htm
Note that CentOS 7.1 isn't one of 'em.
Also, each of the failures listed by the installer includes a link to the Vertica docs on how to fix the cause of the failure. Just make the changes suggested by the documentation.
The installer option --failure-threshold can be set to NONE to ignore all errors. However, the database may not start, won't be optimized, and is certainly not supported in production environments!
See:
https://my.vertica.com/docs/8.1.x/HTML/index.htm#Authoring/InstallationGuide/InstallingVertica/RunTheInstallScript.htm?Highlight=--failure-threshold
https://my.vertica.com/docs/8.1.x/HTML/index.htm#Authoring/InstallationGuide/Upgrade/PreUpgrade/RequirementsTesting.htm
To add to Jim's response, the installer actually checks to the platform release version. So you may be able to fix the readahead and swapsize issues, but the 3rd one regarding 7.1 not being supported will continue to block you. We skipped 7.1 and 7.2 due to issues found that impacted Vertica.
Fyi ... The 9.0 installer gives this error with regard to the OS version:
The --failure-threshold will ignore the error and install Vertica anyway. I tried on 7.2:
interesting that the message says, "RHEL/Centos 7.1, 7.2 not supported, please use RHEL/Centos 7.3** or later**" because the 8.0 and 9.0 documentation both state that 7.3 is the latest version to be supported. We inquired as to whether 7.4 was supported for 8.1 and it is not, so I assume the same stands for 9.0
Hi,
The Vertica 8.0 doc say we support CentOS Versions: 6.5, 6.6, 6.7, 6.8, 7.0
See:
https://my.vertica.com/docs/8.0.x/HTML/index.htm#Authoring/SupportedPlatforms/MCandServer.htm
The Vertica 8.1 doc say we support CentOS Versions: 6.6, 6.7, 6.8, 7.0, 7.3
See:
https://my.vertica.com/docs/8.1.x/HTML/index.htm#Authoring/SupportedPlatforms/MCandServer.htm
The Vertica 9.0 doc say we support CentOS Versions: 6.6, 6.7, 6.8, 6.9, 7.0, 7.3
See:
https://my.vertica.com/docs/9.0.x/HTML/index.htm#Authoring/SupportedPlatforms/MCandServer.htm
Notice we skipped right over 7.1 and 7.2, and there no support for 7.4 yet.
thanks all for valuable comments I installed 7.3 now
