Exposing Vertica log as external table for SQL access? Does anyone have a script with log parser?

At various customer sites, accessing and wading through the Vertica log and performing some log-analytics is fairly cumbersome and time-involved process. Even access is security sensitive and organizations are hesitant.
At few places we were copying the logs to NFS drives/share-points etc. Fairly inefficient.
Does anyone have a script (or pointers/starters) for SQL access to Vertica logs as External table with REGEX log parser included?
Any help/suggestions is greatly appreciated.
