Vertica 7.2.3 data files can be used with Vertica 8.0.1 ?

Hello,

I have a Vertica 7.2.3 cluster running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.5.
The Vertica data files directory is in a specific filesystem.

I plan to upgrade my platform in term of OS version and Vertica version:
I plan to scratch RHEL6.5 and install RHEL 7.3 on all the nodes;
and also plan to uninstall Vertica 7.2.3 and install Vertica 8.0.1.

The question is:
Since my Vertica data files directory is in a specific filesystem that will not be touched by the RHEL upgrade, could I use Vertica 8.0.1 with my data kept in this filesystem ?
(I might have to keep vertica catalog somewhere also)

Thanks,
Regards,
Didier

    If you cleanly shutdown database running version 7.2.3 first and then leave Vertica data and catalog intact . You should be able to upgrade to 8.0.1-x and restart db.

    Hi, following up here since we have a customer with a similar requirement. Did you try in-place upgrade? Did you try the upgrade path above where you saved catalog and data to another partition, reformatted the OS partition, and installed RHEL7 and Vertica to the same catalog and data path? Was it necessary to preserve any other config files e.g. contents of /opt/vertica/config? Thanks!
