Can we install Vertica at a directory other than /opt/vertica, (or move it post-install) ?

We have an OEM customer is adamant that they do not allow 3rd party software in /opt .
Can we accommodate them? We created a symlink to an alternate directory, but install_vertica chokes on permissions of sub-directories. Our thinking is that we might install_vertica to /opt/vertica, then copy the entire directory tree away and symlink it back. But, the concern is what might happen when we upgrade in the future, add nodes, etc.
Has anyone been faced with a similar challenge ?

Unfortunately, the current installer cannot allow the users to install Vertica into the other directory.

If the customer do not allow 3rd party software in /opt on a physical computer server they might accept an install as a virtual machine.
Vertica supports running in any virtualized environment that conforms to the performance requirements.
