Too many open files error - VJDBC 100176

We're currently seeing the following error: [Vertica][VJDBC](100176) Failed to connect to host XXX on port 5433. Reason: Too many open files Is this an indication of not enough files on the client or the server? I assume client, but want to confirm. Thanks in advance.

  • The problem is most likely on the server side. Check the unlimit -n setting as your dbadmin user on the machine running Vertica.
  • Thanks, Amy. It appears that the problem was actually on the client side. The ulimit value on our client machine was only 1024; however, each node in our cluster was already at 65536.
